Maruti Suzuki has sold more than 6 lacs automatic passenger vehicles, out of which 5 lacs cars were equipped with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.

Indian auto giant has successfully sold more than 5 Lacs cars that are equipped with Auto Gear Shift (AGS), which the company claims is popular in big metropolitan cities.

The AGS (Auto Gear Shift) is basically a type of gearbox that changes gear ratios automatically. The technology allows the internal combustion engine provides speed and torque necessary for car movement.

With AGS the driver does not have to depend upon clutch to change gears in the car, instead, AGS shifts gears by hydraulically locking and unlocking the system of gears.

As per the carmaker, the demand for automatic cars in on the rise since its first introduction in the Celerio car in the year 2014. According to the company, the demand for its automatic vehicles is popular in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai.

In the year 2018-19, the company sold more than 2 Lacs units of automatic vehicles.
 
Maruti Suzuki offers automatic options in 12 models and also offers 3 different types of transmissions – Auto Gear Shift (AGS), Torque Converter automatic, and Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT).

AGS is currently available in the Alto K-10, S-Presso, WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza. Whereas the Torque Converter automatic gearbox is available in Ertiga, Ciaz, and XL6. Maruti offers CVT Technology in Baleno only.
